ENGAGEMENTS

Allison and DJ’s wedding was packed with all kinds of amazing things. From Allison’s absolutely stunning dress to their amazing ceremony and reception at the Pinnacle Golf Club in Grove City, OH. All the emotion at this wedding was the best part of it all, and it cannot be quantified, you must see it for yourself…

LET’S TALK ABOUT FLOWERS! DESCRIBE YOUR BOUQUET AND BOUTONNIERES:

Like others, we wanted beautiful flowers but knew flowers could be costly. After reading hundreds of reviews online and receiving quotes from other vendors, we knew the Flowerman would be able to deliver on our vision with an elegant but simple design that was handcrafted with love. Our flowers combined various greenery that was rich and full with a variety of white flowers that ranged from multiple types of roses, ranunculus, mums, hydrangea, lisianthus, and freesia. Although our look was sophisticated and simple, the flowers brought in a de-constructed and free-flowing vibe that we found to be timeless. You would never know that a group of women with no floral experience created all of our pieces a few days before our wedding. It was a fun and memorable experience that surprisingly took away the many stresses of our upcoming nuptials.

TELL US ABOUT THE WEDDING DRESS:

As with the rest of our wedding, I wanted to stay true to myself and go with something that was elegant and memorable. I immediately fell for every dress on Pinterest that combined lace with long sleeves that revealed a bit of my shoulders. Just as they say, when I tried it on, I felt like myself and knew it was the one. The wedding dress industry is large and can be overwhelming. Knowing what you like and what you feel best in definitely helped me navigate what I initially thought would be a difficult process.

HOW DID YOU FEEL THE MORNING OF YOUR WEDDING? DID YOU HAVE WEDDING DAY JITTERS?

The morning of the wedding I felt somewhat of a roller coaster of emotions. The morning started off like seeming like any other day but with a notion in the back of my mind that today was a big day. My best man took me to get a fresh haircut and once he told the barber it was my wedding day, the ride of a wedding day begun. As the wise old barber gave me tips on marriage (he just celebrated 65 years) I started to feel the magnitude of what was slowly creeping towards me. Later my groomsmen took me out to lunch where we had a couple of beers and laughs to help calm my nerves. Next thing I knew we were back in my hotel room getting dressed, and the fun had begun. The twists and turns of emotions that soon followed quickly turned to excitement as I gave in and threw my hands up with everyone else to enjoy the ride. My wife and I decided to do a first look and once Ben came to get me, I knew the real ride of the day was about to begin.

The entire wedding day flew by not leaving a lot of time to take in all the moments. During the reception once we had been served our dinner, Allison and I looked out all the beautiful room and really took it all in. It felt amazing to see all the hard work that Allison had put into it and see her vision come to life.

PARTY TIME! FIRST OFF, HOW WAS THAT CAKE/DESSERT? AND WHY DID YOU CHOOSE YOUR CAKE DESIGNER?

Our cake designer was The Cake Studio by Katie Koivisto. We found her through the Columbus Wedding Show at The Ohio Expo Center (Where I first met you and the fabulous Style & Story Team). Out of all the cakes we tasted that day her cake stood out and was easily  favorite. Katie’s cake was the only appointment we made to sample flavors and with one bite of her red velvet (my favorite) we were sold! Our cake was four tiers with white, gold, and black accents and was exactly how I envisioned it! The tiers combined both red velvet and almond with chocolate and raspberries. We still hear from our guests that our cake was the best wedding cake that they had ever tasted. Katie was awesome to work with during the process. Our wedding vendor accidentally dropped our top tier cake and Katie was quick to offer to bake us a fresh one for our one year anniversary. As always she did not disappoint, and it was just as we remembered!!
Our wedding favors were fresh baked chocolate chip and sweet millie gold iced cookies from Jenny’s Homemade Cookies in Cincinnati, Ohio. Jenny is hands down the best baker – once you take a bite you will never go back. Ever, You can taste every ingredient and the heart that goes into baking this goodness. These cookies flew off the table so fast we were unable to find a crumb left in the building!

IF YOU COULD CHOOSE ONE PHOTOGRAPH TO HIGHLIGHT FROM YOUR WHOLE WEDDING, WHAT PHOTO WOULD THAT BE?

There are no words to describe this photo. Wow, just wow! If we could pick a hundred, we would. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for capturing every single moment in one of the most important days of our lives.

ANY LOCAL INSIDER TIPS FOR PLANNING A WEDDING IN COLUMBUS, OHIO?

Our advice to those that are getting married in the central Ohio area is to shop around, but to not sacrifice what is truly important to you on your special day. There are so many wonderful venues and vendors in our amazing city, and they each have something unique and special to offer. Once we figured out our vision for our day, the rest came pretty easily. To us, the planning all started with our photographer. I knew right after meeting Ben Adams that we HAD to have Style & Story photograph our wedding. Ben just seemed to understand our connection and I knew he would be able to tell our story unlike anyone else. Style & Story has an innate ability to hone in on the details while bringing out the raw emotion of the day. You have to find vendors that truly care about you, and we can say without a doubt that we found that.

WE WOULD LOVE TO SHOW YOUR VENDORS SOME LOVE. WHO WERE YOUR VENDORS?
